⭐️ CLASSROOM REWARDS ⭐️ Let’s talk about it! This rewards jar been amazing for positive reinforcement regarding speaking French and staying on task, even when Madame isn’t in close proximity. Let me give you some background: I teach grade 5 French immersion (aka I teach 10 year old anglophones everything in French as an additional language). In our classroom, we are immersed in the French language and therefore must speak in French to maintain that environment. We try our best to speak French at all times, but sometimes, it’s just easier not to! When we’re busy, emotional, stressed, etc., it’s normal that we revert to our mother tongue because it’s EASIER! To encourage my kiddos to speak French even when it’s hard and to stay on task even Madame isn’t nearby, we collect stars ⭐️ HERE’S HOW: Before each activity that my students do in pairs or groups that requires oral communication, I choose a secret student (l’élève secret) from the bin and add it to our poster. I observe discretely during the activity to see if that student is speaking French and if they’re on task. If so, at the end of the activity, the secret student gets to add a star to our jar! When our jar is full of stars, my students get an extra outdoor recess 🤩 There are so many other ways you could use these jars as part of your classroom management system. You can personalize the text, the size, the fillers, and you can even choose between hooks or magnetic back!
