I’m so excited to release this bonus track from the Lighten Up sessions, “Rich Man”. We recorded 16 songs in just a few days and I loved so many of them which made it so hard to decide what went on the album. This is one of my favorite songs from that batch, but in the end it just embodied a heavier tone than I felt flowed with the record. 

That being said, I DO believe the heavier feelings, the deep introspective dives go hand in hand with Lightening Up. So here we have “Rich Man”. This song in particular is about recognizing a pattern of emotional unavailability and lamenting that. It’s a B a l l a d in the true sense of the word. I’m so proud of it and grateful to Jonathan Wilson, Drew Erickson, and Jake Blanton, on drums, keys, & bass, for playing it live with me in the room. The brilliant Spencer Cullum added some pedal steel as well. 

This sweet video was filmed by Jake Davis in Nashville. He had to type in the titles on the camcorder and then press record. 😆
