What does it look like to celebrate an event like Burning Man in an era of climate collapse? Kudos to @emilydiane, @raverevolutionglobal, @extinctionrebellion and @globalclimatecrimesproject for hosting this talk on Radical Honesty around this provocative art piece by @tommydiacono that challenges us Burners to acknowledge our privilege and the negative impact our lifestyles are having on the Earth, starting with Black Rock Desert. Thank you to Deoné @blk.native for offering your medicine songs in gratitude to the land and the beautiful Paiute people on whose traditional land we were on. I yearn for the day when Burning Man can come into right relationship with the land and the Paiute people. As of now we just give them our trash and disrespect. Thank you also to camps like Earth Guardians who are pioneering the way forward with solar and wind power. (Side note: can I please camp with you next year?) It hurt my heart to spend so much fuel to get there and stay cool... The apocalyptic heatwaves and sandstorms we experienced this year are just a taste of what is to come if we don’t radically change course. I wonder if it will be enough to wake people up? BM’s pledge to be climate neutral by 2030 is too little too late. We must demand that Burning Man and it’s attendees stop burning propane and natural gas for fun, ban private jets, limit fossil fuel generator usage and eventually ban RVs. Let’s go back to the roots of why we are burning the man - to evolve the conscious mind of humanity and break free from the limitations that are holding us down. And for those who would like to replant and offset all the trees cut down to build the man and the temple please see the last slide and consider donating to @art.for.trees - my friend Syn has been replanting forests to replace those that BM cuts down for 9 years.
