It needs deep rest from the character you’ve been trying to play.” Jim Carrey I’ve been on insta for almost a decade this year, and I always said “I need a break, I need to rest” - but never did. I failed to listen to myself. I was trapped so deep in the urge to keep performing, that I needed deep rest from that. This is why I’ve been gone for 6 months straight. I came across the words of Jim Carrey that helped me so much, that I decided to create an Artwork as an homage to the concept that I feel needs to be shared: “Depression is your body saying, ‘I don’t want to be this character anymore. I don’t want to hold up this avatar that you’ve created in the world. It’s too much for me. „You should think of the word ‘depressed’ as ‘deep rest.’ Your body needs to be depressed. It needs deep rest from the character you’ve been trying to play.” Jim Carrey borrowed the notion of “deep rest” from spiritual teacher Jeff Foster, who proposed that “we can view depression not as a mental illness, but on a deeper level, as a profound state of deep rest, entered into when we are completely exhausted by the weight of our own false story of ourselves.
