This is Birdie (in the dress)and Coco (in the little vest and hat- @constancezimmer ‘s newly 15 year old😭) in their preschool production of AS YOU LIKE IT. Birdie found this video on a computer and sent it to me the other day. I love it. For so many reasons. First off, they’re doing Shakespeare😂🙌✨ (when Cricket was at the same preschool she told us that she was “VERY EXCITED TO LEARN JAKE SHEARS.” And it took marc and me way too long to figure out what she was talking about😂) I forgot how small they were. And just what a magical weird preschool they went to. I was panicked trying to figure out the “right” preschool- which was a thing in LA for some reason? I think because there are so many? But we only looked at 2. The first one was the one I wanted for Birdie - it seemed so cute and fun but as soon as we walked in, I knew Birdie would hate-it was chaos- so loud and kids and chickens and dirt-it was NOT for the 3 year old I knew who learned how to say “wash hands” by the time she was two and a half and hated loud noise(and wasn’t crazy about chickens,tbh). And then the second was this Montessori preschool where the kids would sit at little desks or on little mats and do their little puzzles and “work” and clean and bake bread and learn Shakespeare. It was perfect for Birdie but at a certain point, I truly couldn’t do the “parent and me” with her- I made Marc switch and do it because for me, it was all TOO quiet and the “jobs” stressed my adhd brain out and I kept worrying I was DOING IT WRONG with her. Ugh. I wish I could go back and hug myself at 30- so stressed about it all that I couldn’t relax and enjoy it.🫠 I don’t know. It’s just good to know what your kids need, I guess. And then do that, even if you had another idea about things. Or being able to recognize when it’s stressful to YOU because it’s not what YOU would want. It’s a parenting lesson you learn a million times, I think. It’s kind of a lesson for dealing with everyone you love maybe? Also. She probably would have been fine at the dirt chicken school...Who knows? But we wouldn’t have this video so I’m glad I pushed through my own discomfort. Because this video is 🙌✨😂❤️😭👏💯
