In the summer of 2007, Cornerstone traveled to Holtville, CA—a small agricultural town just 10 miles north of the Mexican border—for the fourth Institute Summer Residency. In Alison Carey's adaptation of Shakespeare, A Holtville Night's Dream traded Athenian robes for letterman jackets, woodland spirits for desert mirages, and re-imagined the rude mechanicals as a group of theatrical cash crops.
Cotton, Corn, Alfalfa, Onion, Broccoli and Lettuce meet under moonlight to stage the local classic The Winning of Barbara Worth for Holtville's annual Carrot Festival.
They rehearsed under the watchful direction of Watermelon/Quince (played by the formidable Emily Hansen) while Carrot (Bottom) does his best to steal the show.
