Colonel Vindman was demoted from his National Security Council position in 2020 in what the Army Inspector General later acknowledged was "retaliation for speaking out against improper actions by Trump’s administration." Col. Vindman and his twin brother Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman were born in Ukraine to Jewish parents. Lt. Col. Vindman retired in 2020 after what he called "a campaign of bullying, intimidation and retaliation" by the Trump administration. He testified before the House Intelligence Committee and was a key witness in former President Trump’s first impeachment trial. When asked why he told his dad not to worry when putting himself up against the U.S. President, Lt. Col. Vindman answered, "This is America...And here, right matters."
