The Uyghur crisis has brought to light the fashion industry’s dark side, with reports of forced labour and human rights abuses in supplier factories across the region. This is not the first time the fashion industry has been implicated in a modern slavery scandal, with reports of similar abuses in supplier factories across countries such as Bangladesh, Cambodia and India. So why does the fashion industry repeatedly find itself embroiled in these scandals? Several reasons include the high demand for fast fashion, which leads brands to source supplies from low-cost countries where labour laws are often weak or poorly enforced. Additionally, many brands have little oversight or transparency into their supply chains, making it challenging to identify and address abuses when they occur. Ultimately, it is up to brands and citizens to demand better labour practices from the fashion industry. By holding brands accountable and refusing to support companies that engage in slave labour, can we help create a more ethical and sustainable fashion industry? Amazing collage made by: @bronwyn_seier for @fash_rev
