THE TORLONIA MARBLES. This summer I’d been planning to go to the small seaside town of Sperlonga to visit a remarkable collection of sculpture discovered in a grotto which was in antiquity the villa of Tiberius (Roman emperor). Due to logistics and Italy being so crowded in the summer months, August especially, it didn’t happen. Luckily my friend and fellow sculpture die-hard @alessandropollio_ told me that the long-private Torlonia collection was touring in Milano which I was stopping by for a few days.
