Not my usual caption today, but I just wanted to provide a little life update to all that follow along.
As many of you know, I was hospitalized for close to a month recently, and while the cause of the infection is unknown, we found out the severity of my illness was likely due to a gene mutation. Since leaving the hospital, I have been doing okay, but my doctors at Dana Farber have decided that I need a bone marrow transplant.
The transplant itself comes with significant risks, but if successful, is also a potential cure. At some point in the next few months, I will be hospitalized again to undergo chemo, the transplant itself, and receive care while my new donor immune system starts working in my body. I will then be in isolation protocols for the first year or so. It’ll be a long year ahead, but I’m thankful for such an incredible support network and a world renowned team of doctors that hopefully will transform me into a new, healthy person again.
I say all of this not to garner sympathy or support, but simply to let everyone know that I need to concentrate on my health, and my photography may be more sporadic for a little while. I’m fortunate that once the treatment is over, however, that photography will be an activity I can pick back up fairly quickly because I’ll be outside and not around other people. And for those of you that are curious, there’s really not anything anyone can do for me personally, but if you’re willing and able, joining the donor registry may not save my life but could save someone else’s. @bethematch is an amazing nonprofit if you are ever interested in joining the donor registry, and I assure you the transplant recipients will be forever grateful for your donation.
All of that being said, I probably won’t share much more about all of this until I’ll need to take a break from social media in the spring, but for me it’s just easier for everyone to know what’s going on behind the scenes. For now, thanks for following along my photos and coastal adventures, and hopefully there will be a few burner sunrises and beautiful foggy and snowy days to take advantage of in the next few months. I appreciate you all!
