‘Sense of home’ has always been abstract for me. In some regard evolutionary physiology demands a certain comfort associated with familiarity and the need for some ‘people group.’ It’s always the hermit returning into the society who holds the most value from various philosophical viewpoints. But it’s a particularly interesting thing because we’re in a place which allows hermitage whilst being surrounded by others - something like the Gatsby line about roaring parties being the most intimate - and soaring jet plans are just that. I feel most calm and centred alone in a corner cafe where I can’t completely understand the world revolving around me. Easier to write about Michigan whilst in Paris as Hemingway might put it. All varieties of the same thing I think... I’ve fallen in love with many places + people this way. But can ‘home’ be a body? More accurately, an accumulated memory of experience? I think so. Here occurrences condense showing time to be more as a pinpoint than linear, only a matter of perspective. Similarly (relating back to the physiology notion) can we put roots down across wide geographic spaces, technology the bridge? How close are you looking at the ink splotch? I’d like to have a feast* one day where all my closest friends sit down across a long table of dark oak to share stories. Many don’t know each other - separation by degree of geography, interest or ideology among other things. I’m always the plus one at the party. This is footage from Italy : one of the places I call home. Until now I have never been able to experience the passion of the country outside of (controversially, what I find) the quite nice business centre of Milano. I began this era of my life nurtured with Italian temperament (and a dash of East London grit) compounding onto my youth in the American Midwest... and this feels like closure in some ways. And my next journey, I think, will require many more miles on the road... #TravelInspiration #TravelLife #TravelItaly #AccessItaly #Tuscany #Puglia #Florence #NomadLife #Artist #Photographer #Philosophy ∎
