I always feel like I should of taken more photos back in the day, but like every moment that is experienced, it never feels urgent, or pressing. Only upon reflection does this amplify, only to fade and deliver empty returns, after peeling off yet another day and all that expires with it.
That brings me to a small cache of images that date back to the earliest brand seeds Ken and I planted. I posted this first one a couple days ago in my KB tribute, but did not provide any context or backstory.
These images are from our second ASR Tradeshow in 1992, when we were focused on building Eightball + Droors with a driving narrative that sat at the intersection of skateboarding + graffiti. We were big fans of Wild Style and the NYC train murals, and recruited a very young @persue1 to help lead our efforts in translating this energy into a brand aesthetic and vibe. His b-boys (and characters) were very distinct, giving both brands a unique story in the marketplace, that performed quite well. We held on this for few years before losing Eightball over trademark matters, and transitioning Droors into workwear and athletic themes. @persue1 seamlessly moved from the can to the computer, and became our graphic design lead, while continuing to develop his graffiti chops beyond the company.
The second image is a rare capture of my brother and I. He was instrumental in getting the word out, and seeding product to some of the most influential skateboarders of the time, forming our team, and strong sense of demand and desire in the marketplace. This created the foundation and springboard from which we built from.
In that third photo, you can barely catch a glimpse of Ken, within that masterful photo crop.
So much nuance in these early years. ⚔️
