And as the days roll by, the brief sashay in the Louisiana swamplands draws to a close and I find myself back at Funk Headquarters here in the Crescent city with a to-do list as long as the arm of somebody with a very long arm indeed. Horn rehearsals, rhythm section rehearsals, interviews with Rolling Stone about the new Dr. John record, guests arriving from Dublin, builders fixing my studio, pints of Guinness waiting for me at Markey's bar on Royal street, Oyster po-boys with my name on them at Frady's...the list goes on and on. More importantly, we have a gig to do this weekend. The first Monster Gents show in town since returning from our summer tour in Europe. We’ve been neglecting our local fans in order to satisfy the funk cravings of Danes, Germans, Italians, Limeys and Paddys. It’s about time we came back to administer the grease to the Big Greasy. This Saturday night we’ll be getting down at Zony Mash, a hip new gig in town, a brewery in a converted old cinema in mid-city New Orleans. The last time we played there we had a rollicking crowd of local funketeers in attendance and much jollity was had by all. In the words of Fats Domino, 'I’m ready, I’m willing, and I’m able to rock ’n roll all night'. Hope to see all y'all Absolute Monster fans present and incorrect for an evening of good funky New Orleans rhythm and blues. We’ll have the Monster horns and local, recently returned from a career in LA, session-guitarist Michael McDonald as our special guest musician. VIP tickets are available from the venue on request. See you Saturday.
