Life is such an amazing succession of phases. The end of August always causes me to pause and reflect on this. As a child, this was the time of year I was getting ready to go back to school. The dual feelings of sadness that summer vacation was ending paired with the anticipation of new classes, friendships, and challenges. As a World Cup ski racer the end of August meant that pre-season training was ramping up. The relaxed concentration of our first on snow camp, often in New Zealand, was behind us, and the timer became not just a tool to improve, but a reminder of competitions ahead. As a pro skier this transition from summer into fall means the excitement of colder temps, plus the added motivation to prepare for big objectives and long days on snow in just a few short months. Now as an athlete/mother my brain is already calculating what it will require for my two kiddos to thrive during winter, as I continue to pursue goals in the mountains. Bring it on September.
