How to work SMARTER not HARDER when building your content portfolio!✨ In the beginning, it’s easy to get overwhelmed trying to maximize the different categories of photos you have in their portfolio to try to create a detailed representation of your work that will appeal to every brand you try to work with no matter who they are or what they’re selling. But instead, just think: “what do I need to have in my portfolio to appeal to just ONE brand?” And work towards that. To do this successfully, it’s important to find a niche. If you have determined your photography niche to be working with outdoor brands, for example, you’ll want to optimize your portfolio to focus on adventure/product photography! You wouldn’t want to pitch beauty brands if this doesn’t fall within your niche, and explain yourself to death about how you would still create amazing content for them when your entire niche is in an entirely different ballpark. After all, this industry is based on visual appeal, not verbal explanations. You might feel inclined to reach out to everyone and anyone and see which brands are most responsive to start building a portfolio and retaining clients. But finding your niche actually starts with...YOU. Take a second to think about what you enjoy taking photos of and what you primarily post about on your page and make that your niche. Not only will you then stay passionate about what you’re creating, but targeting a smaller clientele base that is relevant to the content you’ve already started putting out is sure to get you faster results and start landing those collabs!
