On this Labor Day, we remember Jewish labor union activist Clara Lemlich Shavelson. Following antisemitic pogroms in Russia, her family immigrated to the United States. She found work in the garment industry and became a passionate labor organizer, encouraging 20,000 workers to strike in just two days. Her leadership led to union contracts for the Triangle Shirtwaist Company and other clothing manufacturers. She was also an active suffragette, founding the Wage Earner’s Suffrage League, and lived until the age of 96. #JewishAchievement #Jewish #LaborDay #ClaraLemlich #LaborRights #Unions #History #HerStory #WomenSuffrage
