“THE HARDER THEY FALL” A friend had sent me this video of a interview with director of photography Mihai Mălaimare. In the interview he describes how they came to the visual look and feel of the movie “The Harder they Fall.” An incredible story about the real life black legends in the Wild West, directed by the great director Jeymes Samuel. Mihai had found my work in Congo Tales in a book store after weeks of searching. If you scroll to the next page you can see the video of the interview. I am particularly thrilled by this because cinema and story telling is where my passion lays. I always love to create scenes that tell a whole story with light. With lighting a world can become surreal and mystical.
The light in Congo Tales was the biggest challenge of my photography lifetime, because I wanted to do something unique. Creating these complicated light setups in a town ,17 hours from the Capital without running electricity and lots of rain was a challenge to say the least. But we did it thanks to my incredible Passionate team. The photo featured is called “the night husband” this one, like all other images in Congo Tales were all shot during the daytime because at sun down the whole town goes dark. So we recreated these night scenes with @profoto strobes.
