“I think the emotional impact of cancer is very well known, but people may not think about the financial side.
“When Abigail was first admitted, I had no idea that I'd be in hospital with her for a month. After we came out, we were constantly backward and forwards. I then realised how much this was going to change our lives and that there was no way I would be able to work.
“I was worried about this and what the financial impact would be like for us. Luckily my husband’s work were very good and gave him leave, but not having my salary was a worry at the beginning of diagnosis and after.
“This worry was most definitely amplified by the cost of living rising and it still is a worry.”
When Lara’s daughter Abigail was diagnosed with cancer, Lara had to leave her job to care for her. She shares how the financial impact of cancer has affected their family.
We know that many young people and families are understandably worried about the increasing cost of living.
