This year I want to celebrate an incredible accomplishment. My talented husband Ivan @ivanbelaustegui produced directed and created a show called Alma, that was recently premier in Havana Cuba. The show tells the story of a female warrior leader of an African village, Yaya who is captured and forced into slavery along her tribe by a group of europeans through a journey across the ocean, when they finally arrive to Cuba, they have a rebellion and free themselves. In the second act, 400 years later, the scene takes place in a typical Solar Habanero”, where leader Alma, the descendant of Yaya, goes into her own struggles and along her tribe they explore the styles of music , dance and sounds that have grown out of the African heritage. I funded this project thanks to my beloved brand Carolina K , a brand I have been building from the ground up for almost 20 years. I am so thankful to the entire Carolina K tribe , to the Alma family, it really takes a village to make something so incredible come together and I can not wait to take this show on the road to tour around for many years to come and show the world what Cuba and it’s people are really about.
