Last week, eight LYR coaches completed their Foundation Safety and Rescue Training. They learned and practiced key skills needed to operate safely and deal with common emergencies. Simone, one of the Programme Coaches based in London, told us more... “I’m doing the FSRT to become a paddle sport instructor. This training taught me that you can’t rush into a situation even if someone is in danger. You have to make sure you are safe, then the others around you are in order to safely rescue the casualty; you are not helping if you are in danger too. The mental part was challenging but I enjoyed the thrill of finding something difficult but still being able to overcome it. When I had to empty a kayak from a kayak, it took me a few attempts. After I did it, it gave me confidence that I would be able to stay calm in a real life situation like that” @londonportauth @british.canoeing @officialsportengland
