This Sunday (May 1st) at 6:30 pm, I’ll be screening my film Labadee at @metrograph, followed by a Q&A with @dahsawn in celebration of International Workers Day. Labadee will be screened alongside El Sitio de Los Sitios (Site of Sites) by @_natscabral_ + @oriolesma, which in @dahsawn's words are “two faves that clap back at the ridiculous theater of tourism with plenty of jokes and some serious wit, while highlighting the hidden labor required to maintain “paradise.” These films will be the closing of “Unraveling Paradise,” a series of screenings and discussions curated by Dessane Lopez Cassell and Co-presented by the Abrons Art Center @abronsartscenter around Caribbean films and artist’s moving image works that pry apart illusions of the region as a tropical “paradise,” which I’m so excited to have been part of.
