Spent the last week of summer break tucked away in Nantucket again, inhaling buttery lobster rolls and taking afternoon naps after pinballing between the islands’ various beaches (Children’s, Jetties, Surfside, Sconset). Ice cream @nantucketjuicebar became a near-nightly ritual, surrounded by clumps of children buzzing with sugar, desperately clinging to the last drops of summer. Lily made a cool new friend, too (last slide). Any drive into town meant pressing the gas pedal as gingerly as possible over Main Street to avoid getting tossed around like rag dolls. Cobblestones: chic but cruel. Would not recommend! The house we rented felt frozen in time in the best way. Kids’ toys from the eighties; a large collection of thrillers (possibly all of them ever published?) by Lee Child; a garbage disposal system from the 90’s that stumped us all until one final Hail Mary did the trick (push the heavy stopper thingy into the drain and twist). Plus many “peak Nancy Meyers meets Nantucket” things, too like: An outdoor shower adorned with blue hibiscus. Regatta paraphernalia. Model ships (many). Shell-shaped sinks (just one). Whale figurines atop armoires, mantels, and doorways. 10/10, would rent again.
