I love capsule collections—capsule makeup collections, small but aesthetic and organized spaces, curated jewelry collections of treasured pieces. Some people are authentically maximalists; I’m authentically a minimalist. Here are a few things I adore about capsule wardrobes, few of which are based in practicality. 1. I like wearing the same thing over and over. A uniform is chic; it says, “I know who I am.” 2. People who have capsule wardrobes usually look more put together. They wear outfits, they style their clothing, they have a POV on fashion and which items of clothing and combinations makes them feel powerful and relaxed. In contrast, I’ve observed people with large wardrobes often wander around in pieces that don’t flatter their bodies and in overly casual outfits. 3. It forces you to know thyself. Perhaps this is why older people often have a capsule wardrobe—because they know themselves well. If you’re doing it right, your capsule wardrobe isn’t like anyone else’s wardrobe on earth—it’s unique to you, your experiences and your needs. 4. @leandramcohen said in an interview that dressing up is the process of showing on the outside who you are on the inside. I feel that people who have a bit of a capsule wardrobe share who they are with me when I see them. I have insight into who they are and what their life consists of just by looking at their outfit. People who are maximalists often also share who they are through their outfit. But when someone has treasured pieces they wear over and over, I feel I can see and understand that person with more precision.
