i don’t think i can say anything about this experience that i haven’t already said, but this play and this place and this company have changed my heart, probably forever. so many things had to line up to allow us to tell @martyna_majok ‘s story in a way that made us so proud and in a process that felt so good, and somehow they did. to pull a quote from⁣ @solweisbard, ‘there (were) no assholes here’. ⁣ ⁣ so much of the labor in our industry is fighting for respect and visibility, both within the stories we tell onstage and the work that goes into putting them there, and the process can feel like recovering from deficit before rehearsal even starts. @pasadenaplayhouse is a magical place where we were met with abundance from day one, where nobody felt inaccessible, where every single person on staff and on our creative team was working toward one goal, always: to authentically tell the story presented in ‘sanctuary city’ as best we could and, by doing so, carve out space on that historic stage for communities who have likely never seen themselves or their stories there in the theatre’s nearly 100 year history. every night through previews, someone came up to me and said ‘this is my story’, and my heart would nearly stop every time with that immediate reminder of why we do what we do.⁣ ⁣ thank you martyna. thank you danny. thank you chika and solomon and john and jojo and hannah. thank you ana nicolle, miles, and kanoa. thank you jenny and brad and everyone in the shops and on our crew. thank you brandon and lydia and shani and marc. thank you bonnie and amanda and sam and becky. thank you ryan and rose. thank you kory, omar, abby, peter, and nellie. thank you corey, keannak, marcos, ashley, and michelle, and every person who touched this production. i will forever want to eat that bomb ass chicken fuckin parm with you. ⁣ ⁣ (here’s opening night and some random heart explosions, prod photos to come 🧡.)
