The Albany pitcher plant (Cephalotus follicularus) is an interesting carnivorous plant from a small region in southwestern Australia. These little plants only grow on costal, sandy slopes in Albany, Australia. Although they may look like trumpet pitchers (Sarracenia spp.) or tropical pitcher plants (Nepenthes spp.), they are completely unrelated and are a beautiful example of convergent evolution. They are more closely related to the common houseplant purple shamrock (Oxalis triangularis). These C. follicularus are classified as vulnerable by the ICUN Red List and are just one of the species we conserve here in our diverse collection of carnivorous plants.
