Reposted from @thelegendsofmusic Mark Lanegan playing “Strange Religion” Live in 2019 Remembering Mark Lanegan on what would have been his 58th Birthday. Mark is best remembered as being the frontman for the Screaming Trees before moving onto a fascinating solo career that saw him explore acoustic music along with folk- and blues-inspired songwriting. Mark’s original tenure in the Screaming Trees saw him rise to fame when the band had started getting mainstream recognition in the ‘90s. Early on, Mark crafted individual identity for himself as a vocalist and songwriter and it was evident right from the start that he was heavily influenced by the blues. He took his darkly poetic sensibility to whatever style his muse pointed him and that’s why Mark’s solo records are so fascinating to listen to. His solo work expanded on his sonic palette with the semi-acoustic atmospherics of 1990’s The Winding Sheet, 1998’s Scraps at Midnight, and the adventurous hard rock of 2004’s Bubblegum and 2012’s Blues Funeral, to the clean electronic surfaces of 2014’s Phantom Radio and 2020’s unsparingly confessional Straight Songs of Sorrow. What do you think of Mark? Leave a comment, I’d love to hear your thoughts! #Music #RockNRoll #MarkLanegan iiii]; )'
