Sunrise this morning was a moody display of lights and color as storm clouds hovered overhead. As winter approaches and days grow shorter, sunrise comes later in the morning - so you don't have to hop out of bed too early to see it. As autumn settles on the canyon, keep a few things in mind for your visit: โ„๏ธ๐Ÿงฆ๐Ÿงค๐Ÿงฃ Temperature - even though we're in the desert, it gets cold! Lows can dip below freezing, and windchill can make it seem even cooler. Be sure to dress in warm layers and try to avoid getting wet. Immersion in water is the quickest way to lose body heat, and hypothermia can set in quickly. ๐ŸŒง๐Ÿ’ง Wet weather - speaking of getting wet, this time of year tends to bring rain, sleet, and even snow. Higher elevations have already received a dusting of snow this past week. Roads are plowed, but trails may be closed due to unsafe conditions. Pay attention to your surroundings, wear warm shoes with good tread, and consider using a hiking pole for extra stability on slippery surfaces. ๐Ÿ”ฆ๐Ÿ’ก Days are getting shorter - if you plan to be in the park early in the morning or after the sun has gone down, make sure you have a light source just in case. Warmer colors like yellow, orange, and red lights are easier on your eyes, and less disruptive to nocturnal animals. ๐ŸšŒ Getting around - the shuttle bus is currently in operation but will be out of service from November 28 to December 22. The Scenic Drive may close as parking fills. #PlanAheadandPrepare #PlanLikeaParkRanger #KnowBeforeYouGo #LeaveNoTrace
