I hate to admit it, but…
I didn’t enjoy family sessions until a couple years ago.
Back then, I thought the goal was getting kids to sit still and smile at the camera. Which, if you’ve ever been around toddlers, basically means a lot of bribery, frustration, and disappointment. I would leave sessions feeling like I had failed, because the photos didn’t look “perfect.”
Somewhere along the way, I realized: perfection isn’t the point. Family photos aren’t meant to be everyone frozen in one stiff pose. They’re meant to be real. Messy. Honest. A little bit chaotic - just like life with kids ACTUALLY is.
Now I encourage families to let their kids run, laugh, twirl, climb, and even pout. Because those in-between moments is where the magic lives. It what you really want to remember down the road. The giggles, the sticky hands reaching for mama, the way siblings tackle each other mid-hug...those are the photos that end up meaning the most when you scrapbook to look at in the years coming.
So instead of trying to control the chaos, I lean into it. I actually promote it. I tell moms and dads when they’re booking “this could get messy” hahah
Your family’s story is already beautiful just the way it is.
If chaos sounds like your family, you’re in the right place 🙌🏼 DM me to start planning your fall family session 📸
