I’ve always been hesitant to set new years resolutions because we all know how it goes more often than not—you set them at the end of the year, you enthusiastically start working towards them come January, and then you abandon them come February.
This happens because we tend to focus too much on the goals we set and not enough on the systems we follow.
“Goals are good for planning your progress, but systems are good for actually making progress.” - James Clear in Atomic Habits (Highly recommend reading this if you’re serious about changing your life.)
A system can be described as a collection of habits and continuous small improvements that you adopt in order to achieve certain results.
And one of the beautiful things about good systems is that, because they’re made up of good habits, and good habits stick, you’ll find yourself continuing to make progress even after you’ve accomplished your “goal.”
If you’re determined to make serious progress in 2020, I recommend you look into the topic of habit building and system building. The information will change you.
The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg is an excellent starting point. It’s one of the most life-changing books I’ve ever read, no 🧢
Happy 2020 🕺🏽
