Wow! I’m still processing what happened on Friday at Red Rocks. I want to thank @gramatik for inviting me to open for him, and trusting me to throw down trumpet throughout his epic three hour set. After the sold out concert the venue kindly gave us these trophies. I’m not one who puts great emotional significance into physical objects — I also know that the energy we collectively experienced last Friday at Red Rocks cannot be encapsulated into a slab of wood, metal, and sandstone.... BUT!!! Something about this particular item I’m holding brings it all full circle for me. My entire life has been dedicated to music - some of my formative memories are sitting around a piano with my grandmothers and cousin laughing, singing, and just being in the moment. Music is quite literally vibrations - and vibrations are impermanent... yet in their path vibrations shape rock formations, and they shape people. When I look at this sandstone on this trophy (directly from the Red Rocks amphitheater) I do not see a permanent object - I see something that has been shaped by nearly 300 million years of Geomorphology, and in turn has shaped so many concert goers and musicians alike by absorbing and reflecting our musical vibrations, dreams, cheers, stomps, and laughs. So many thoughts, and so much love!
