Mental health affects many people in different ways. It’s not the same for everyone, and sometimes your friend, family member, or loved one may need that extra boost of help. It’s important to support someone you care about with the right approach and mindset. Let’s dive into how ⬇️ ✨ Listen: Let the person talk openly to you without you giving advice OR dismissing their thoughts and feelings. You don’t have to be an expert in mental health, fully understand their situation, or know exactly what to say. Listen to how they feel and give them a space to be heard and given empathy. ✨ Reassure them that you care: Even if this person is being distant, not wanting to spend much time with others/socialize, or acting unlike themselves...it can be extremely comforting just knowing that they have people that care. ✨ Ask about support: First, ask them what you can do to help even if it’s something as small as picking up lunch for them or going on a walk with them. Second, ask if they are getting the treatment that they want and/or need. If they don’t know where to start, you can help them research support options. A great place to start is our resources page on our official website! www.BlackGirlsSmile.org ✨ Know when to talk to someone else: If this person is talking about and mentioning things that are very concerning like self-harm, it may be time to tell someone else who can better help them. You’ve done your part by offering sincere and empathetic support. . . . . . #BlackGirlsSmile #MentalHealthIsImportant #MentalHealthResource #MentalHealthAdvocacy #MentalHealthTips #MentalHealthWellness#TherapyIsCool #ItsOkToNotBeOk #MentalHealthIsReal #MentalWellnessMatters #MentalHealthHelp #StopTheStigma #MentalHealthStigma #HealthyMinds #DepressionSupport #AnxietySupport #AnxietyHelp #DepressionAwareness
