We had the stupidest conditions for a 100 nm crossing yesterday. Short period wind swell but no wind so the boat was bucking and rolling and just so annoyingly uncomfortable all day and into the night. THEN at midnight or 1am or something, the wind picked up and we were sailing (yay), but just as our watches were about to switch over Torren discovered that the bilge was rapidly filling with water. Like super quick glug glug glug... we were basically sinking. So we turned the boat around and sailed 30 mi back in the direction we’d just come. Luckily, the leak slowed when the boat was heeled to the other side, and the bilge pump worked, and we did not in fact sink. It felt pretty freaky for a bit there though, watching the water rise, floating out in the middle of nowhere. Now we have to figure out where the water was coming from and fix it before we head south. All this to say that the dolphins make it worth it, even the prospect of imminent death! I should be helping Torren fix the thingy right now! But I’m instagramming :) #boatlife
