Marginal Way Morning . When I arrived in Ogunquit last week hoping for some high tide wave action and clouds for a fire sky, I got neither, at least so I thought, and figured I’d simply keep the camera in the bag and walk Marginal Way, occasionally wandering out onto the rocks to do some location scouting. It was a beautiful morning, and I got to say hi to a couple pups and a passerby along the walkway, but the photo conditions were not promising for what I had in mind. So I did something I always wish I had more time for when taking photos—I slowed down and I took the time to assess the whole landscape and envision what could be, simply enjoying the moment without worrying whether I’d come home with a good shot. But as it turns out, some clouds moved in, and I had found the perfect spot by this rock face and tidal pool that I knew would catch the light just right. A few minutes later, the sky lit up, and I could immediately feel the warmth of the sun as it crossed the horizon. Not the morning I expected, but a spectacular morning all the same.
