So excited that ‘Rainbow Warrior’ is a part of the ‘Desert Rider’ Exhibition up now @phxart curated by @gilbert_latinks the show will be up until September 18th 🏆 🏆 🏆 ‘Rainbow Warrior’ is a fire suit that was fabricated for the artist, Sam Frésquez. It is meant to be worn in an alternate reality in which Frésquez imagines herself to be the first Latina NASCAR driver. The suit’s design and title reference her family’s favorite driver, Jeff Gordon, and reimagines the 1992 Sam Bass DuPont color scheme as the Pride flag. Frésquez takes a functional driving suit and covers it in glass seed beads as a way to counter conventional notions of gender-based roles, usually grounded in ideas of fragility and durability and coded in materiality.
