What an odyssey! We joined the queue of tens and tens of thousands of people of all ages and creeds paying homage to Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at 10.45pm last night and came blinking into the sunlight after experiencing the solemn and powerful magic of the lying in state at 11.10am. Swipe for some moments from the odyssey - on a route that largely follows the Thames from Southwark Park to Lambert Palace and found the Houses of Parliament in dawn light as Monet painted it - a journey that was so deeply moving and also infused with camaraderie and friendship in the company of @dbgilman and his mother, @nbgilman who had flown from the States expressly, @jjamesmackie @philipjamesjoseph and thanks to my sister for capturing from the @bbc livestream the solemn moment I arrived at the catalfalque - in a beautiful room blissfully free, of course, of iPhones. Pageantry at its most extraordinary, heaped with gratitude.
