I was 28 years old before I ever dared to wear my natural hair to a job interview. When I finally did, it was an act of rebellion—risking my career advancement to simply exist as Black woman whose natural hair serves as an oft-rejected extension of her racial identity. Too often, Black women are denied employment and advancement opportunities simply because an employer deems Black women’s natural hair as “unprofessional." This needs to end, NOW.
