Weight is only ONE DATA POINT and it’s not something to panic over. But it can be an indicator that their daily habits may need some tweaks if you notice they are accumulating fat on their body more than their typical body type. I don’t recommend saying anything to your child about their body size because it’s absolutely not something for them to worry about! And notice I don’t mention any sort of restriction of portions— because it’s not necessary! They should always be able to eat enough to feel full and satisfied. Weight can be a tricky topic— I get that. These are all habits that are not designed to achieve a certain body size, but to help your child feel their best and get the most out of their nutrition! Remember that just because they are a higher weight percentile or higher BMI does not necessarily mean they are unhealthy or that anything needs to change. My son was always around the 75-85th weight for length percentile and the doctor and I were not concerned in the slightest- he just has a thicker build! So please do not worry if that’s the case for your child. This is really only a concern if you notice they are increasing in body fat more than you typically see on them.
