the year was 2016. i was living in korea at the time and working on my first manuscript. i would go to the waffle cafe in my neighbourhood and sit there with my laptop, trying to figure out how tf one revises a novel. when i returned to vancouver, i polished up that book and sent it into an author mentorship program where (now early 2017) @katchowrites took me under her wing as her mentee. flash forward to 2022: i’m back in korea as a published author, meeting not only kat, but other dear writing friends that i’ve had the great fortune of crossing paths with throughout the years. we did a reader meet up on a cafe rooftop in hapjeong and more people than i could have ever imagined showed up to hang out with us. i found my debut novel (not the 2016 manuscript but the one i wrote after that) at the children’s library in seoul. it feels wild and surreal and incredibly full circle and i am just... man. i don’t even know. so grateful for it all 🥲💛
