“Matthew Thomas: Enlightenment” is now available to view at @caaminla until August 7, 2022. This exhibition originated with my former colleague, Mar Hollingsworth who has since retired. Quite serendipitously, I’ve had the opportunity to steward this show into materialization. Getting to know Matthew Thomas, who has been working in LA for several decades— greatly influenced by Buddhist principles in his work— has indirectly strengthened my own Buddhist practice in the process. Through his work, Thomas exposes audiences to the things we might gain when we lean away from didactics, finite language, and other prescriptive discourse. This exhibition is a true prompt for visitors to let intuition guide them in encounters with color, light, opacity and geometric abstraction, through almost all senses. #BlackBuddhist #Blackness and #Buddhism #enlightenment
