This is your sign: Let your Hoyas dry!!
————————————————
I currently have three Hoyas pushing out huge peduncles covered in buds. THREE! They’ve been blooming non-stop since January. JANUARY!
———————————————-
How did I get so many blooms already?? Here is what works for me. Try it, it might work for you too:
1. Let the plant have a dry period. I let mine go about 4 weeks between watering (yup). The one here hadn’t been watered in maybe a bit longer. Less is definitely more.
2. Give it lots of bright light. All of my Hoyas hog the brightest light. They live in southern facing windows at the back of my house. It doesn’t get a drop of shade, and hours of direct bright light There are a wide variety of Hoyas, and some like a little less light. I don’t have any of those. I have found success with the sun worshippers, so that’s what I stick to.
3. Resist repotting. In the wild, Hoyas are epiphytic (grow on trees). They’re not used to having their roots in soil, so they like to be a little snug in the pot without too much surrounding dirt. The only time I’ve quickly repotted a Hoya is to go down in pot size.
4. Fertilize when actively growing. For me in my temperature controlled house, that means all year. There were a couple that slowed but none that stopped completely. I use a diluted liquid fertilizer and an occasional spritz of the Orchid fairy dust.
5.Lastly, never EVER cut those leafless runners. NEVER. No matter how wild they look (I love it). Leaves will eventually sprout along these vines and you know what else, right? Peduncles!
