Meet Dr. Lisa D. Cook: The first Black woman to serve on the Federal Reserve 💫 In 2017, I met Dr. Lisa Cook as a newly minted economics enthusiast, excited to face the questions I had about society and the world at large. I was invited to attend her seminar where she was presenting one of her most famous works, which looks at how violence against African-Americans prevented innovation from happening in Black communities. After the talk, Dr. Cook and I chatted, which is when I asked her to be my mentor. And since then, Dr. Cook has guided me every step of the way. I am incredibly proud of Dr. Lisa D. Cook who will be serving the nation as the first Black woman at the most important economic institution in our country, the Federal Reserve. She is the only choice that made complete sense to me given her extensive experience and her amazing accolades. She has cleared every bar and then some while climbing uphill. Her appointment is a win because she has historically centered the economic progress of Black and Brown communities, understands middle America and the working class, and has a unique background in global economies, especially Russia. Aside from her qualifications, she is just an amazing human being and I am so proud to call her a dear friend, collaborator, mentor, educator, and guardian angel of sorts. Congratulations Dr. Cook!
