καλέω-
“to call,” “to invite,” or “to name.”
This summer was an honor and a blessing! I went into the summer in what I would call a spiritual drought -I felt far from God, I missed his presence. I was listening to whispers from the enemy saying, “Where is your God now?”
As the summer went on I prayed and prayed begging to feel God in some sort of way. I couldn’t understand why I felt so far. I didn’t understand why so many horrible things were happening in the world. Again, lies from the enemy flooded my mind saying, “Where is your God now?” I was stuck believing these lies, wrestling with the question, “Is God really good?”
And I can confidently say, he has revealed his goodness to me abundantly.
As I was reading through Isaiah, I read this:
“I have blotted out your transgressions like a cloud and your sins like mist; return to me, for I have redeemed you.”
Isaiah 44:22
That is a call, in Greek, Kaleo is deeply tied to the idea of calling someone with purpose, whether literally by name or into action, mission, or identity.
Jesus has called me by name, he has covered me in his blood and redeemed me. He has shown me his goodness through the hands of his people, through his provision over my life, and through the redemption of my best friend’s lives!
There is nothing better than delighting in the Lord besides your best friends and that is what Kaleo is!
