Gives me all the feels to be back in this ancient homeland once again. For anyone, I think a trip to this charged, holy and technicolor-vibrant land will be unlike anything they’ve ever experienced, but for a Jew, it can be truly earth shattering and life changing — it has always been for me. I feel our collective nomadic and perpetually tragic history in ways that manifest in my life today. There’s a longing for connection to the past, to my roots, that is present in my bones. Being here on these sands and soils is this feeling of soul-belonging that is indescribable. It’s an incredibly complicated place, up against impossible odds we in the States have trouble even comprehending. Like most places on this planet, it is not perfect, but the palpable spirit here is like nothing else I’ve ever felt — evidence of some deep magic for sure. When you’re used to always being this tribal ethic minority, and then you show up in a land where the airport signs are in your ancient biblical letters, and the security guards are Jewish, and the hotel owners are Jewish, and the taxi drivers are Jewish, a sense of belonging washes over you that you didn’t realize how much you had been aching for.
