One of my two pairs of @stitchdownpatinathunderdome boots (Double Dome!), both of which I will wear dutifully for the next six months, despite being unable to personally win absolutely anything. It’s about the journey! It really is. ⁣ ⁣ Ok onto the boots. They’re a 110-last @vibergboot Scout—my first ‘Bergs were Scouts, so these are kind of an homage to them—in Horween crust Natural M’s (aka mechanical leather) workshoe horsebutt. This stuff is from outer space, just bonkers. THICK, furiously determined to roll instead of crease, and has a truly unique look and hand especially in its naked, pre-conditioned state (don’t worry we’ll get there soon enough).⁣ ⁣ Here’s Nick Horween’s explanation of the leather:⁣ ⁣ “It’s a variation of Chromexcel, but tanned like shell cordovan for the first 45 days. So, 30 day pit tannage, then retanned like CXL but we add chrome also (for strength). Hot stuffed, and then in the case of your pair, just dried and done. Normally we would finish it like regular Chromexcel after that, but yours are crust.”⁣ ⁣ These are a production sample, aka they may be a boot that becomes more than just this one pair in the future...time (and leather production) will tell.
