I’m so excited for my garden this year! I’m planting over 100 veggies, fruits, and herbs! I’m doing a lot of experimentation this time around but I plan on taking you all through my journey! This is just a little taste of what I’m growing this year!🦋🌼 🍓🍇🍅🥬🥦🌶Read about Hardening Off below! 🫶🏾✨ Hardening off is the process of gradually acclimating indoor-grown seedlings to the outdoor environment in preparation for transplanting. Seedlings that have been grown indoors or in a greenhouse have been sheltered from harsh outdoor conditions and are not yet ready to handle the full intensity of sun, wind, and temperature fluctuations. To harden off seedlings, you should gradually expose them to the outdoor environment over a period of 7-10 days before transplanting them. Here are some steps you can follow: 1. Choose a mild, overcast day to begin hardening off. Start by placing the seedlings outside in a sheltered, shady spot for 2-3 hours. 2. Increase the amount of time the seedlings spend outside by 1-2 hours each day, gradually exposing them to more sunlight. 3. Gradually increase the amount of direct sunlight the seedlings receive each day, starting with morning sun and gradually exposing them to more midday sun. 4. Gradually expose the seedlings to outdoor wind by placing them in a sheltered area with some gentle air movement, and gradually increasing the amount of exposure to wind over time. 5. Watch the weather closely and bring the seedlings inside or cover them if there is a risk of frost or extreme weather conditions. 6. Once the seedlings have been fully acclimated to the outdoor environment, they can be transplanted into the garden. By following these steps, you can ensure that your seedlings will be strong and healthy when they are transplanted outdoors. Hardening off helps seedlings adjust to the outdoor environment and reduces the risk of transplant shock, which can cause stunted growth or even death. #gardening #holistichealth #gardener
