I went through a break up while trying to direct my first film and once it was completed, I lost my grandfather. I found myself in a deli with -300 in my account and $10 in cash, debating between purchasing tissue or food to eat, in the middle of a blizzard. I crumbled many times, in private...prideful with fear of hearing “you should just come back home!” from mfs that have lived in New Orleans their entire life; We tend to dress it up, take the best pictures to distract ourselves from the reality but before I drop this film and close this chapter, I want my creatives to know that I too have hit rock bottom before and met my “ugliest” self. BUT was I really my “ugliest” self? or was I just judging God’s unfinished work? I forgot God made me from clay lol. I forgot, so I identified the process of being molded as a “struggle”. When God molds you, it feels like a breakup after 5 years, it feels like sofa surfing and ramen noodles for every meal, it feels like isolation, it feels like hopping the turnstile to go to work and the police giving you a ticket. PRESSURE MAKES DIAMONDS !! These exact moments are molding us. I came out the struggle a woman! A woman with two apartments, that completed real estate school, & who directed and produced her first film. So if you are currently crashing on your friends couch or swamped with bills, stay calm and speak only on the positives.
