A few days ago I went to watch @project.dastaan ‘s film ‘Child of Empire’ that visualised the real life stories of two survivors of partition. One leaving for India and the other for Pakistan. It was all in VR and I felt immersed into the tragedy like never before. Partition is already a triggering topic for people of what used to be the Indian subcontinent as a whole. And it will never stop being one, the more you learn the more you’re left speechless and overwhelmed with a plethora of emotions (mainly the urge to st@b the Kiun?-een and the royals, might as well do rest of the yts as well 😀🔪)
The exhibition also reminded me of another by @soc_films called Ghar 1947 that I saw in Karachi years ago as it brought up the same intense emotions. If you ever have the opportunity to see these PLEASE RUN DON’T WALK!
In the meantime @project.dastaan website currently has the interactive map + timeline and individual accounts/video interviews available online.
The last words ‘business meant small shops’ made me reflect on how much neo colonialism and racial capitalism has changed our world into this place of mindless consumption. A place where business means big conglomerates and multi national companies. We have been made to forget what eco conscious living looked like, what our indigenous ways of clothing, food, transportation etc were. The current systems do not care about exploitation of land and labour. I could write a dissertation on all of my thoughts and feelings but I shall spare you.
The VR documentary and multimedia exhibition is currently traveling. It was recently in Birmingham and will be coming back to London in September. I believe they also have plans to hold showcases in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Follow @project.dastaan for updates.
