This month marks 10 years that I’ve been photographing in Inglewood with intention of documenting the shifts in the community following the purchase of the Great Western Forum by Madison Square Garden Co. in 2012. It’s been so wild to see everything that’s gone down since then. The construction of Sofi, the new Hollywood Park Casino, the YouTube Theater, the selling of the Forum to Steve Ballmer two years ago and rebranding as the KIA Forum and now most recently the construction of the new Clippers arena. Every time I’m like “Well, that’s it what else can they possibly build here” a new multi-million entertainment facility gets green lit in the city and I begin to doubt wether my work will ever be done there. Tbh it probably won’t ever be because stadiums aren’t the only sign of change in Inglewood but I hope to show more of what the current iteration looks like soon but for now here’s what the forum looked like when MSG first purchased it in 2012, Hollywood Park Casino before it got demolished to make way for the new one and Hollywood Park Racetrack before it got demolished to make way for Sofi Stadium. Another wild thing is that as I’m digitizing my Great Grandmothers photos I’m thinking about this project and hit this milestone. She was the first in my family to buy property in Inglewood in the 50’s. She got a townhome across the street from the racetrack so she and my great grandfather could go to the track and bet on horses on the weekend and my Dad still lives in that house to this day Pretty sick tbh.
