I found chittim in a Lagos crafts market! In my Nsibidi Scripts series, the currency of Leopard People that falls from above whenever you learn something new is called chittim. In their community, you earn wealth by acquiring knowledge. Chittim comes in all sizes (even microscopic...those are worth a LOT) and can be gold, silver, copper or bronze. The idea of them was based on these pieces of African currency (also used as jewelry) called "manillas" (well, this is the term for them in Spanish, at least). These ones are the southeastern Nigerian type called okpoho. They are old, heavy, and now they are *mine*, 😊!!! That's also the mask Anyaugo chose for herself, lol. When I got home, I had @nnedi_cats Neptune and Periwinkle check them out when I got home to make sure there was nothing...negative energy attached them, lol. I do this with all things like this that I bring home. They sniffed them for a long time, Neptune took a few bites, but otherwise, all good, 😁. If they’d hissed, run away, refused to go near them, etc, then I’d have put these things in the garage until I could figure out what to do next, 😬.
