I learned inglés watching Mister Rogers Neighborhood with my baby sister, The I Love Lucy Show, and reading beauty magazines my mom would bring home. It’s scary starting a new school. It’s even scarier being in a new elementary school where you don’t know the language, and moving to a new country away from your abuelitos y primos and anyone you know and love. So I retreated into books and after school TV shows, and found my own little world - and that helped me learn and understand this new and interesting and very different world. One of my favorite activities was reading magazines like Elle and @womansdaymag in English on Saturday mornings that my mom would bring home from work (when she worked at a retirement home). I used to read the pages and wonder about the beautiful things and interesting people who were featured. Little did I know that something I co-created would be on the pages of @elleusa one day 34 years later.
